世界初の実用的な超々広角ズームとして知られるシグマを代表する銘玉。
従来のこの画角だと魚眼レンズに相当するが、歪曲を綺麗に補正したパースペクティヴは見ていて圧巻である。35mmフルサイズで使える広角レンズということでは唯一無二の価値をもっている。
APS-C専用レンズでは14mmでF2.8等が普通の現在においてはF値が若干暗いと評価されることも多いが、ISO感度が自由なデジタルだとあまり問題にならない。また画角が広いことにより多く見られる逆光によるフレアなどもまずまず抑えられていて実用範囲である。レンズフィルターはゼラチンフィルターをレンズ後玉に挿入するタイプだが、APS-Cの画角だとキャップ取付用フードに装着することで通常のレンズフィルターが使用可能である。(*1)
